SOME GIFT IDEA
December 16th 2009 00:00
If you know anything about the country I am in, you’ll probably know that Christmas is feted the longest in the Philippines. There was a time when Christmas Carols and Christmas lights, lanterns and everything that reminds you of the Yuletide season become visible here at the onset of the “ber” months.
You know, the months that end in “ber” September, October, etc.
Well, there was that time…
Still, people in this country still think of giving gifts despite the economic crisis. So, let’s go there today. It’s Christmas, maybe we can use that as an excuse and splurge a little bit. Spend beyond our means and give the grandest of all the gifts!
But that wouldn’t be so wise, right? And that wouldn’t be practical either.
So, why don’t we stick to what is practical? How about something useful that is not so expensive? Say, a wireless headset? Now, a lot of things would fall under that category so we choose the one that applies to the person we are giving it to.
Let’s consider a person who has to be constantly on the phone but who has to drive around a lot.
If he/she has to drive around a lot and he/she is not a mere driver, then he/she probably has a Bluetooth supported mobile phone, which means, we can give that person a Bluetooth wireless headset.
Now, there are a lot of Bluetooth wireless headsets in the market and, while I am not the guy who will recommend a brand for you to buy, I would suggest you choose a headset that does not cause more troubles than it solves.
What troubles?
Well, you see I’ve used a few of those headsets myself and here’s what happened. The first headset I used was the kind that has wires. It was comfortable and it gives me a stereophonic sound but somehow, something always gets caught with its wires and that is a hassle. Sometimes, the cell phone itself gets thrown out of its holder (or my pocket) when I have to reach for something and my hand gets caught with the wires.
My first Bluetooth wireless headset was nice but its battery life was so short I have to recharge it even before I can finish one sentence in a phone conversation where I am using it. Ok, I’m exaggerating but you get the point.
The next one was a little better in terms of battery life but it keeps breaking its parts like it was made up of some crunchy materials that are nice to eat but... we are talking about a headset here.
My third wireless headset was made of some sturdy materials but it was kinda heavy. Well, maybe it wasn’t heavier than my previous headsets but it was the only one that stayed attached to my ear longer than the rest, thus I noticed how heavy it was.
Truth is, it wasn’t really that heavy, but if you keep it attached to your ear for a while it begins to feel like a ton of bricks.
So, what is the best wireless head set that you or anyone can give?
How about that one that does not have the above mentioned characteristics?
Sorry, I’m probably not that much of a help but sometimes, knowing what to avoid is better than not knowing anything at all.
