FilmOn Offers Quick Movie Streams With New HDi Technology
December 24th 2008 08:49
HDi technology is going to revolutionize the way we watch videos online! HDi technology uses a new compression technology, which will benefit from processing power spread across the globe on many servers. So, effectively, it claims to remove the current buffering time from heavy (or sometimes even small) video downloads.
FilmOn, the new video download service, is launching this new technology for it's customers this week, claims it to be like a turbo-charge for the streaming website, and "will transform the broadcasting industry". To start with, it offers a collection of 7,000 films, with around 70% of them available for free.
"We're trained to watch what's on the box, but audiences are not fools and it doesn't take long at all to change. The YouTube generation is a good example. You can seek what you want to watch when you want. We're the next step. It's a natural evolution to qualitative distribution," says FilmOn.com founder Alki David, who's the 47th richest man in the UK.
When I check out the site, it did show many free downloads, but most were unknown to me! I'm sure they'll add better movies soon. And, when I played a video, it did start running immediately without any buffering - BUT, mind you, it was on a smaller screensize within the page. Will be interesting to check back later - when loads of users would know about it and jam the bandwidth.
