Move On iPod Touch - Giinii Movit Is Coming?
January 23rd 2009 08:39
With Android becoming an open source mobile OS, many impressive products are turning up from virtually unknown companies. One such product, which created a buzz in the CES 2009 was the Giinii Movit™ - a mobile internet / entertainment device.
With a screen size of 4.3”(7" in the works!) - 480 x 272 pixel touchscreen - Movit may pose a new competition to iPod Touch. The device uses Wi-Fi for connectivity and allows to browse the web and share content on top social networks like Facebook & MySpace. You can watch streaming videos (that are large enough to really see) and use the built-in video camera as a mini-web cam(iPod touch misses out here!)
The interesting thing here is Movit is Skype™-enabled with a built-in microphone and speaker (with Bluetooth option), allowing you to call other Skype users for FREE-as long as you are in a WiFi hotspot. It is carrier-independent which makes sense.
iPod touch has a solid backup with the App Store, while Android being new needs to grow it's Apps list, though there are many useful ones already available. Movit's built-in lithium battery (lasts 6-8 hours) and touch keyboard make it a device to watch out.
What's cool is, Giinii plans to launch it in Q3 at a lower price point than iPod Touch. From the Giinii website, the distribution seems already set with big names like Walmart, Amazon, Target, WalGreens and zBezt.com. 2009 sure looks interesting for gizmo freaks
